Everything you need to know

  • Why is BAM better than commercial dog food?
Dry dog food does not provide the level of nutrition that your dog requires, it can be compared to our version of human junk food or like eating only bread for your whole life -- it will never give the level of nutrition that is required to thrive. Commercial dog foods are also not regulated and often contain unhealthy fillers, by-products, and even diseased meats within them. Feeding your dog only kibble (or charcoal as we like to call it) will eventually lead to health problems down the road, even the "high end" dog food brands are comparable to you eating junk food your entire life. A dry kibble only diet will have negative impacts to your pups health that may not be seen right away but after time will show themselves as disorders, diseases, organ damage, lethargy, etc. The risks associated with only feeding dry food as a primary diet include shorter life spans, heart disease, obesity, and dental diseases, among others. Another concern with commercial dog foods is all of the recalls that happen even with the top quality brand names and how it is being prepared. Dry kibble only diets are convenient and fast ways for humans to feed dogs but it is not actually beneficial to the dog and it's health. Kibble is cost effective and convenient for human usage but over time it will cause damage to the dog that will result in expensive vet visits. In addition, commercial food is cooked at such high temperatures that there is no quality nutrition left once it is ready to be served to your pup. Bam Pet Food is formulated with real human grade quality ingredients that you can recognize within your own diet (and taste test if you'd like) and is cooked at lower temperatures to preserve the natural nutrients of fresh food. This ensures that your pet is getting the best nutrition possible. Our home made meals are better than commercial dog food because it is free of fillers, by-products, additives, preservatives and other artificial ingredients. It is also packed with essential vitamins and minerals that are essential for your pet's health that is naturally acquired by the ingredients that we use within each unique diet. All of our recipes are lab tested as well and abide by AAFCO standards, our meals are also nutritionally comparable to veterinary canned dog food!

Here are some of our favourite and most common benefits seen; 1. All of our meals are very easy to digest and absorb, even the most sensitive tummies will tolerate and thrive on our recipes. 2. Better digestion will result in regular healthy stools all of the time, and believe it or not they will poop less!! Science shows that dogs who eat real food absorb way more nutrients from the food which = less poop! 3. BAM can help ease and even solve issues related to allergies. 4. Issues related to IBD, pancreatitis, kidney and liver issues can be managed with our specially made recipes! 5. Say goodbye to picky eating when you start feeding your pup BAM! 6. Any dog who eats BAM even only as a ''topper meal'' will still see these benefits!
  • How is BAM different from other home cooking services?
BAM is different because it was founded by a veterinary assistant who understands the importance of nutrition and has training within the animal health field to get your dogs's feeling their best! At BAM we always discuss 1 on 1 with you to better understand you and your dog, each diet is individually tailored and made specifically for your dog. We will always go over ALL important information (allergies, health conditions, animal history, etc) regarding your dog to make the best meals possible for them and their specific needs. We pride ourselves in personally getting to know your special pup in order to give them our absolute best! We will also check in with you every step of the way to ensure everything is going well and help you in any way we can. We care and take care of your pups as if they were our own!
  • Why cooked food over raw?
Some owners initially switch their dogs over to raw food diets because of recurring health concerns especially regarding severe allergies and digestion issues caused by a dry food only diet. With raw food the owner may see a difference initially with their pup because the raw meat is not comparable to dry food but the improvement is a false reality because the initial improvement phase will not last for the dog's entire life or for very long at all. Raw food diets after time will result in health issues and diseases related to the heart, organ failure and more. Raw food carries bacterias and ingredients that can cause damage to your dog’s health and wellbeing, there is also no evidence of raw food having positive long term benefits for your pup. Raw food is not a balanced diet and our precious pups require a balance between protein, carbs, vegetables, fruits and fiber. Raw food diets also have too much calcium within them which is not good for bone development, especially for large dog breeds. A two-year study conducted by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration from 2010 to 2012 found that raw pet food is more likely than other types of pet food to carry bacteria, including Salmonella and Listeria monocytogenes that cause food borne illnesses. This study prompted the FDA to issue a warning about the public health risks of raw pet food diets. Not only that, but veterinary organizations, like the American Animal Hospital Association, officially recommend against feeding raw meat-based diets to dogs, as does the American Veterinary Medical Association (AVMA). Here is some information of the OMVQ'S stance on raw food feeding (L'ordre des médecins vétérinaires du Québec): ''Although dogs are anatomically carnivores, they have adapted to domestication over time and become more akin to omnivores with carnivorous tendencies. It has been scientifically proven that there are many genetic, anatomical and physiological differences between domesticated dogs and wild canines. This adaptation to life with humans has changed the nutritional needs of domesticated dogs and the type of food that can provide them with optimal health, such as their capacity to digest the starch in grains. Wild animals are not safe from the parasitism, malnutrition and infectious diseases that come from eating raw meat, and in nature these animals are also often deficient in important nutrients. Of course, wild carnivores eat whatever they are able to find, which is not necessarily the ideal diet for long-term health.''
  • How are BAM meals made?
Since our meals are tailored to your dog's individual needs our meals are prepared once the order is placed, this ensures freshness of the meals and the quality of the ingredients being used. All of our recipes are lab tested as well and abide by AAFCO standards, our meals are also nutritionally comparable to veterinary canned dog food! At BAM, we use non-invasive cooking methods and cook at low temperatures to ensure we are preserving the nutritional value of each and every ingredient. Each ingredient in each bag of food is carefully measured to meet your special pups individual needs and then it is frozen to guarantee freshness and longevity in the freezer before serving to your special pup!
  • Why grains are important in every dog's diet
Grains are very important within a dog's diet because without them they are at a greater risk of developing cardiac problems such as Dilated Cardiomyopathy. DCM is a cardiac disease that affects the heart muscle function by decreasing the heart’s ability to pump blood. Canine DCM occurs for a number of reasons, including genetics, poisoning, infections, and nutritional deficiencies. More and more dog's are being diagnosed with DCM because of nutritional deficiencies (aka lack of grains within the diet and are only eating grain free). To help prevent diseases such as DCM it is crucial that your pup has grains within their diet. If your pup has severe allergies and you are concerned about the grains within the meals, please contact us as we have a very strict protocol with allergy dog's and slowly introducing them to new ingredients. At BAM we also only use brown rice as a grain within the recipes, as it is the most nutrient filled grain, the least processed of the grains and very easy to absorb and digest. In recent years grain free diets have become very popular among dog owners due to allergies becoming more frequent and severe. Most dogs are actually not allergic to the grains in commercial dog foods, they are allergic and sensitive to the fillers and preservatives used in the dog food. A huge percentage of dogs are also allergic to the chicken used in dog food as well.
  • Is BAM Pet Food safe for pets with health issues?
Yes! Bam Pet Food can help with health issues related to pancreatitis, chronic IBD, digestive issues, obesity, loose stools, allergies, and more. Our recipes are formulated with the highest quality human-grade ingredients that are tailored to the needs of your pet’s individual health condition. For pets with health issues, we will work together and guide you to choose the best possible diet for your pet to help them be as healthy and happy as they can be. Since our meals have been designed by a vet assistant and with the help of other veterinarian's, we understand how each health issue affects the body and what is needed to help your pup get back on track! We recommend discussing any health conditions with our team and with your vet to determine which ingredients are best for your pup's individual needs.
  • Will my picky pup like this diet?
Yes, picky eaters will be a thing of the past and they will be full of excitement for meal times with BAM! Your picky pup will thank you for giving them the best quality diet and lick the bowl clean! BAM caters to even the pickiest of eaters and BAM they are hooked just like that! BAM's suggestion for picky eaters: 1. When it is not meal time do not feed your pup any treats, leftovers or any extras so that they are actually hungry at meal time. 2. Take away their food after 15-20 minutes of being served and try again at the next meal time if they do not want to eat. 3. Do not leave food out all the time for them because they will never understand what meal time is if they have constant access to food.
  • I have a dog with severe allergies, how will BAM help them?
For dogs with mild, moderate or severe allergies we will go over the allergy testing results (if any) with the owner and build a recipe around your dogs sensitivities. If you have not done allergy testing we will pick the most allergen friendly ingredients to build a recipe and slowly transition your dog with the new diet to see how their system reacts. For dogs with allergies we will check in with you constantly to see how your pup is doing and if we need to adjust anything, don't worry we are here for you and your pup every step of the way! Normally allergy cases require a minimum of 2-3 months of "detoxing" before seeing true results on BAM and to get your pup back on track. The body and internal systems need an adjustment period to cleanse itself of the allergens that were previously aggravating your dogs internal system. Once exposure to the allergens stops, your dogs body will slowly start to calm down and rebalance itself and then eventually we can slowly introduce more ingredients into their BAM meals. BAM was originally created by our founder and veterinary assistant because of a dog named Daisy who had SEVERE allergies. Daisy could not tolerate ANY commercial dog food without having major allergic reactions that resulted in lesions all over her body and severe hair loss. We found the perfect meal and balance for Daisy and her allergies are now completely controlled and her hair has grown back!
  • Topper Meals - Perfect for larger dogs and to spice up meal time!
Here at BAM we want every dog to have access to our meals because it truly will give them a better life! For larger dogs we suggest to keep them on a good quality commercial dry food and use BAM as a "topper" meal for them. Topper meals are the exact same recipes as our regular meals but instead of feeding your dog full home cooking you would be feeding a reduced amount on top of their regular food. Our topper meals can also be fed as "supplements" to their every day meals, you can feed part of our BAM meals 2x per day, 1x per day or even 2-3 times per week to still see amazing improvements! Topper meals make sure their meals are not only delicious but provide human-grade nutrition for healthier, happier and longer lives! By using topper meals the commercial food will keep them full and be used as the "extra calorie filler" (that is was designed to be) and they will get everything they actually need through our BAM meals. Even when you are only using our meals as a "topper" your dog will still get all of the amazing benefits and you will still see huge improvements with them, "topper" home cooking is truly better than nothing! Contact us today for more information on how you can start feeding your baby BAM without breaking the bank! We are here to help in any way possible!
  • Do I need to cook this food before serving it to my pup?
No! Every meal at BAM has already been gently cooked, vacuum sealed and frozen for you! All you need to do is take out 1-2 meals at a time, thaw them and serve! BAM's suggestion for dogs who prefer warmer comfort meals; To warm up the meal before serving you can always put the thawed meal in its packaging in a warm bowl of water for a few minutes or heat it up in the microwave for 10 seconds and serve!
  • Why you should leave the cooking to us
It is not recommended for owners to start cooking at home for their pets because home made diets are difficult to balance and are often nutritionally deficient when made at home. Some ingredients are also not safe for dogs and a home made diet requires extensive research and laboratory testing to ensure it has everything our pups require. At BAM, our diets are carefully tailored to each dog and their specific needs, health conditions and activity requirements to ensure that they are getting proper nutrition.
  • How can I be sure of the nutritional value and guaranteed analysis?
All of our meals have been laboratory tested to ensure it's properly balanced and to guarantee it's nutritional contents to make sure your dog is getting the best! All of our recipes abide by AAFCO standards and our meals are also nutritionally comparable to veterinary canned dog food! Ask one of our team members for more information and we will provide you with all of these details!
  • Is BAM suitable for all life stages?
BAM is suitable for dogs through all life stages! Since our meals are made specifically for your pup they will be adjusted based on their needs and the life stage that they are currently in! All of our recipes are lab tested as well and abide by AAFCO standards, our meals are also nutritionally comparable to veterinary canned dog food! For puppies our food will give them everything they need to properly develop and grow into healthy adults. It is very important for puppies to have more protein in their meals than an adult dog in order for their muscles and bones to develop healthy and strong! Giving your puppy the best foundation possible will ensure a long, happy and healthy life! Adult dogs (who are otherwise healthy with no medical conditions or allergies) require a balanced amount of proteins and nutrients to sustain optimal health, activity and longevity. These dogs are within their prime and need more maintenance level nutrition to give them everything they need to keep them active, healthy and happy before entering the next phase of life! Finally for older senior dogs, BAM is exactly what they need to pick them back up again when their body is starting to slow down. Our meals will help get their mobility, strength and energy back on track! Older dogs actually require more protein as well in this stage of life, in order to compensate for what their body is no longer producing and doing by itself anymore. We have seen countless senior dogs go back to playing as if they were a puppy again after starting on BAM!
